Elvina is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with a passion to help couples improve their relationship. She is a solo practitioner with a private practice in San Ramon.
She began working in the counseling field in 2003, working with troubled foster children, while going to school for her Bachelor’s degree at San Francisco State University. This experience sparked her passion to help families stay together, through stronger marriage and better parenting skills. She wanted to be better equipped and effective, so she decided to pursue a professional license and a Master’s degree. In 2006 she was accepted into Western Seminary’s Master’s program in Counseling, with a specialty in Addictions Studies. She enjoyed the wonderful instructors, and loved every class in the program. She chose to do two separate traineeships during the program to increase and diversify her clinical experience–one traineeship was in a counseling center that served health insurance clients, the other traineeship was a drug and alcohol treatment center that worked with post-incarceration, court ordered drug offenders. She graduated in 2007 and have been counseling at a professional level since.
Over the years, she has done internships all around the Bay Area, with reputable counseling centers and non-profit agencies, refining her skills and clinical expertise.
After thousands of hours–over 3000 hours–of counseling experience, she took the state licensing exam and became licensed in January of 2012. Over the years and working with so many different clients, it was clear that her calling is to work with couples. She has always found couples counseling to be engaging and very rewarding. So she decided to open her own private practice that would be focused on helping couples.
The practice opened its doors on Bishop Ranch, San Ramon in early 2012. It is located in central Tri-Valley because of the concentration of families in the area, and is easily accessible from the 580 and 680 freeways.
As a way to become active in the community, Elvina joined the San Ramon Chamber of Commerce and the Danville Area Chamber of Commerce, and is an active member in both the chambers. She later became an ambassador for the San Ramon Chamber of Commerce. This helps her meet local businesses and stay in touch with the newest developments in both cities.
Outside of her professional life, she enjoys watching movies, cooking, eating good food, playing the electric guitar and bass, and spending time with family and her dog. She volunteers as a radio host for a weekly Cantonese radio show about emotional health and family relationships. She has been doing that since 2009 and enjoys the opportunity to raise awareness within the Chinese community.
